The property
The resort is situated midway up the West Australian coastline within the Shark Bay World Heritage Area. From Perth, it’s a 10 hour drive to the resort or a 100 minute flight to nearby Shark Bay Airport (vehicles can be rented from Shark Bay Car Hire. The resort is situated towards the far end of Peron Peninsula, which divides Shark Bay in two.On site, you’ll find everything you need for a great holiday, including the beachfront Boughshed Restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner; laidback Monkey Bar, which serves afternoon drinks and dinner; plus barbecue facilities. For active types, there’s an outdoor pool and hot tub, tennis courts, a pool table, volleyball equipment and giant chess. Practical amenities include a laundry, a tour desk and free wifi.
The accommodation
Campervan, caravan and motorhome travellers can choose between centrally located powered sites with bore water access or powered beachfront sites with superior views and fresh water access. There are also grassy unpowered sites for tents or small campervans. The fan cooled backpacker style dormitories are great for young travellers and the air conditioned budget rooms, which sleep up to four, are a smart pick for small families.Cabins range from Garden View and Family Garden View, which sleep four and eight people respectively, to two person Beach View and four person Superior Beach View. All cabins are equipped with air conditioning and flat screen TVs with in house movies and most have verandahs.
The neighbourhood
Monkey Mia is the only place in Australia where dolphins visit daily, not seasonally, so there’s no better place to see these incredible creatures up close. Rangers from the Department of Parks and Wildlife hold three feeding sessions per day on Monkey Mia beach, usually between 7.30am and 12.30pm (ask resort staff for exact times). For more interaction with the dolphins and with the other wildlife of Shark Bay, book a two hour or full day boat trip from Monkey Mia jetty with Perfect Nature Cruises. Or, if you’d rather steer your own vessel, hire a kayak from the beach hut located directly in front of the resort.To learn more about the history of the Shark Bay World Heritage Area, book an Aboriginal cultural tour with Wula Gura Nyinda, or simply soak up the atmosphere on a camel ride along the beach.
